“’Ensemble’ is spot-on; their togetherness is so absolute…they lift us to exotic locales both dry and dusty’ (WOMAD)
The Baladi Blues Ensemble plays the urban Egyptian dance music known as Baladi.
This all-star collective of Egyptian master-musicians was formed in 2007 and originally featured the late “Founding Father of Baladi” accordionist Sheik Taha. They have since appeared at a host of international festivals including WOMAD, Songlines Encounters Festival, LondonLive and many others.
Their soulful and energetic music was featured in the BBC documentary “Bellydancing and the Blues” and they were nominated for Best Group in the Songlines Music Awards 2013.
Returning to the stage for special events, the group continues to surprise audiences and break new ground: their 2014 album Baladi Blues RELOADED featured their collaboration with electro-geniuses Transglobal Underground and Kamel Nitrate.
They have released several CDs over their 10-year history, their debut being described by fROOTS magazine as “Outstanding, fresh and compelling as well as technically superb”.
2017 saw the launch of their latest CD: “TEN” alongside their own 4 day live music event: LondonLive.
